Inspector-General of Police, Bangladesh. Benazir Ahmed BPM made the remarks in her closing remarks to field-level officials on the last day of a three-day crime review meeting here this morning (September 14, 2021). The meeting was held at the Hall of Integrity at the Police Headquarters.
The IGP said, “Under the clear direction of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are committed to building a corruption-free police force for the welfare of the country and the people.” If any member of the police of government jobs is found guilty of corruption, he will not be released.
He said no member of the police could have any connection with drugs. If someone has any kind of association with drugs then he should come out. The IGP reiterated his firm commitment to take strict action against any police member if it is proved that he is involved in drug dealing, drug dealing, or drug dealing.
“As a member of the police, nothing can be done that harms the police force, harms the country, harms the people of the country,” he said.
Referring to the Bangladesh Police as an orderly force, the IGP said discipline and welfare of the forces are not an issue. Discipline cannot be equated with welfare. No compromise can be made on maintaining the discipline of the forces. If any police member breaks the discipline, exemplary strict action should be taken against him. We are also trying our best to ensure their welfare. He said the juniors have to oversee the work. Senior colleagues have a responsibility to make them competent members of the police force.
Referring to ‘bit policing’ as an effective way to bring police services to the doorsteps of the people, he said that many social crimes can be prevented through bit policing. Currently, the case has come down to half due to bit policing. He directed the field level officials to crack down on theft, robbery, and other crimes through bit policing.
Addressing the police officers, the IGP said it is not necessary to just do the job. Pride must be brought to the job. For this, we have to bring mentality and psychological change. “We have to have a love for the job, then we will move forward,” he said.
He compared the organization to a banyan tree and said that the bigger the organization, the more it will prosper. The country and the people of the country will get better services. He called upon the field level officials to work for the country, for the common people of the country.
